EN Standard Penetration Grade Bitumen – Specifications & Uses
EN standard penetration grade bitumen is one of the most widely used paving binders across Europe, Asia, and Africa due to its high reliability, consistency, and long-term performance in road construction and asphalt projects. These grades are classified based on the penetration value measured at 25°C, which indicates the hardness or softness of the bitumen and helps engineers select the right grade for different climates and traffic conditions.
We supply a full range of EN penetration grades, including 35/50, 50/70, 70/100, 100/150, and 160/220. All grades are produced and tested according to European standards such as EN 1426, EN 1427, EN 12591 and related EN performance specifications. These standards ensure accurate viscosity, controlled softening point, and stable behavior under temperature changes.
EN penetration grade bitumen is commonly used in:
- Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) production
- Highways and expressways
- Binder and wearing courses
- Airport runways and heavy-duty pavements
- Large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects
Each EN grade offers specific performance characteristics. Harder grades such as 35/50 are suitable for hot climates and heavy traffic, while softer grades like 160/220 provide better flexibility in colder environments. The technical analysis table below shows penetration values, softening point and retained penetration, helping engineers and buyers choose the right grade for their project.
By using EN-standard penetration grade bitumen, road contractors and importers can achieve long-term pavement durability, rutting resistance, cost efficiency and full compliance with international road construction specifications.
